Brand Maximisation

Brand Maximisation

Hashtags – those increasingly prevalent symbols before key words in social media posts – offer a powerful way to increase brand awareness and help grow an organisation and Brand Maximisation.

Social Media provides an opportunity for brands to connect with people on an individual level, and smart execution of the hashtag can help drive engagement that builds both loyalty and brand advocates.

“Approached thoughtfully and strategically, hashtags can be a really effective way to break through online chatter and communicate with your audience,” says Lee Hawksley, managing director of social media software provider ExactTarget Australia.

Here are Hawksley’s four strategic ways for businesses to benefit:

1. Build anticipation

Businesses can use prelaunch hashtags to gauge the level of interest in a product. This can not only help spread the word about their new offerings, but also predict estimated sales levels.

2. Be consistent and simple

New hashtags are added by Twitter users daily. Consistently use the same hashtags when referring to your business so your followers can find relevant tweets quickly. This means followers can easily add your hashtag to their posts.

3. Make your followers a community

Twitter isn’t all about you. Turn the attention back to your followers. Providing a community hashtag such as #[brand]chat will bring all your followers together in one place so they can interact with each other and your brand.

4. Keep it relevant

Twitter is about engagement. It’s a place where people share their thoughts and opinions. Those bombarded by constant self-promotion will soon unfollow.

Content should be on-topic and interesting and not always about your organisation. Show followers you value their input and are open to two-way dialogue by retweeting, replying to or adding their tweets to your favourites.
