Home Office Expenses that Employees Could Claim Deductions For

What home office expenses qualify as tax deductibles? If you are an employee who works from home, there are expenditures you could claim deductions for. Mostly these are office running costs and include electronic device operating costs.

Mostly you should deduct costs incurred due to using your home computer, printer and telephone for work-related assignments. For these, you could claim purchases for items amounting to 300 dollars and depreciation for items costing 300 dollars or more.

Work related telephone calls, including mobile phone calls or rental phone calls, can be claimed. However, you should keep records to serve as evidence when you finally choose to claim for home office expenses.

Occupancy expenses are not tax deductible for employees but they are for self-employed people. These include house insurance premiums, mortgage interest fees, rental fees, and council rates.
