Office Concerns
SHOULD I RESIGN OR DISCUSS MY CONCERN WITH MY EMPLOYER FIRST?
Office Concerns
If you are at a stage in your job where you are considering resignation, you want to have crossed off all the available options to you first, with resignation as the final step.
TAKE A STEP BACK AND ASSESS THE SITUATION
When we are so close to something such as our job (if you are full-time we do spend the majority of our days at work), you need to stop and take a step back from the situation to get a clear assessment of where things are at.
Ask yourself:
- Are things as bad as what they seem?
- Are there any steps you can take to rectify the situation?
- Have you shared your concerns with your superior?
- Are there support people at work you can turn to such as a HR advisor?
DISCUSS YOUR CONCERNS
One of the best things you can do is to verbalise your concerns with your superior. As difficult as it may be, communicating is vital to ensure long-term workplace satisfaction. Simply airing your concerns can help lift a weight off your shoulders and be a step towards resolution.
IF THE SITUATION IS HARMFUL…
Unless the situation is a harmful one where you feel threatened or unsafe, then you should seek external guidance and support. In no instance should you be forced to continue in a position where your safety is jeopordised.
Remember, communication is key.
Be honest and open about your concerns as it may mean the difference to you staying and going.
If the end result is resignation, at least you know you tried every avenue at your disposal.
