Children tend to have what is known as cupboard love at an early age. It may no longer just be food that attracts them, but they are far more attached to the people in their lives who are going to spoil them and give them what they want by way of riches.
There is nothing like the sight of a small toy or a packet of sweets in the hand of an adult to make a child want to be around them. It is when there is little to offer and the children are still around that riches can be found.
If they want to be there because of the person not the gift, then that person is very lucky. Not all special quotes can be allocated to a specific person, but it was, certainly a wise person who noted that “A truly rich man is one whose children run into his arms when his hands are empty.”
