Socrates Quote Regarding an Unexamined Life Sounds Harsh
This is what Socrates quoted: “An unexamined life is not worth living.” It is hard to understand why this Socrates quote is so harsh. It could be fairer to say that an unexamined life was less enjoyable or less important, but Socrates does not pull his punches. He was very interested in the way people made their choices and the way that ethics were used.
He would want them to think about the consequences of actions in a way that an animal would not do. If someone did not live by those rules, but chose to go through life with scant regard for others or how they fitted into the great scheme of things, he would feel it was the waste of a life.
This Socrates quote reveals that harsh actions are going to be met with a harsh reaction. A failure to examine what one does in effect takes away the right of the person to be considered a good human being and their essence is not worthy of existence.
