There are 4 ways to claim work related car expenses
1.) Cents per kilometre
Is a set rate per kilometre depending on the size of the engine
Maximum of 5,000 kilometres
Will need to show or calculate how you worked out the business kilometers
2.) 12% of original value method
Is a claim based on 12% of the original cost of the motor vehicle
Cost price is subject to the luxury car limits
Car must have travelled more than 5,000 business kilometers in the year
Will need to show or calculate how you worked out the business kilometers
3.) One third of actual expenses.
Car must have travelled more than 5,000 business kilometers in the year
You can claim 1/3 of all car expenses including private costs- excluding capital costs-
You need written evidence for all the other expenses for the car, as well as records that show the car’s engine capacity, make, model and registration number.
