The wind is a strong force and will be able to aid or defeat many people depending upon the way it is used. When reading “If the wind will not serve, take to the oars”, it seems immediately clear that there are strong elements at work.
The wind can be seen as the force that is helping people and when in a boat the first thing to do will be to put up the sails and let the wind take you forward. If the easy way is not working, it will not be a case of giving up what you are aiming for but changing the way you try to achieve it. Sometimes it is the hard way – the need to use the oars – that will get you what you want.
