As a HR manager you will not avoid difficult employees. Dealing with these sorts of people is your job, after all. Pretending there are no issues to solve will only make them worse. So, what can you do?
Evaluate your difficult employees
It is good to think prior to acting. Some employees may be difficult to handle because of personal issues they are facing. For instance, some could solve their stress by bullying fellow workers. Others may turn to alcohol for solace. Both cases are bad enough for the company to take immediate action. Both workers will eventually ruin the company and their own life.
Investigate difficult employees first
Always aim to confront a stubborn worker with facts. Taking an action on a rumour is like starting another investigation on the difficult worker who spread it to begin with.
Are difficult employees resenting you?
Employees’ conflicts should be an eye opener. They should inspire you to investigate your own management style. Are you non-responsive and illogically harsh? One worker who is sick of you could make everyone turn against you.
