Hot pink socks help battle breast cancer- Junior Rugby
JUNIOR rugby players across the Hunter region will be looking pretty in pink on Saturday when they pull on a pair of hot pink socks to help raise funds for local people battling breast cancer and their families.
The ‘Boot Out Breast Cancer’ campaign kicks off on Saturday at the Number 5 and Number 2 Sportsgrounds in Newcastle and the money will go to the families of people undergoing treatment.
All 11 of the region’s junior rugby clubs will participate, said Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation president Lisa Bartley.
Close to 1200 pairs of hot pink socks had been sold to rugby clubs so far, including to local referees for junior and senior games.
‘‘Boot out Breast Cancer’’ is a way for the local community to support our own,” Ms Bartley said.
She said the Foundation is constantly looking for ways to heighten public awareness while raising money that will help them and their families
The Wanderers Women’s team have taken on the role of co-ordinating the day which follows the Charlestown Netball Association’s ‘‘Shoot Out Breast Cancer’’ campaign held recently which raised $8000. Sports clubs interested in joining in can contact the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation on 041958 875.
