Annual employee performance appraisal is very important. But the process of conducting performance reviews can be emotionally draining. Both employers and employees must both prepare in advance. But how can they prepare early?
- Update performance appraisal documents
These can vary depending on the job position held. But first you should first review and update the roles listed in each job description. Then you should gather all notes and documents accumulated throughout the year for every employee. These may include employees’ achievements or notes from happy customers or fellow workers. - Let employees know their performance benchmarks
An employee who knows what is expected from them will not fear annual performance reviews. Instead they will strive to be productive and good at their roles to reach their benchmarks. - Use performance appraisal to coach
Employers should be smart when preparing conducting reviews. Some employees’ poor performance may be due to fear of losing their job. So the reviewer needs to be a friendly person who can correct, coach and motivate.
