The Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) has issued a statement reminding Tax and BAS agents that they must complete their annual declaration with the TPB each year, other than in the year they need to renew their registration.

It is said that the annual declaration is due on the anniversary of a Tax or BAS agent’s renewal date (the renewal date can be found on the TPB register).

It will send an email to let agents know when their annual declaration is due and how they can complete it. They will have 45 days to complete the declaration.

They can access their annual declaration form by visiting www.tpb.gov.au/myprofile

Example: How the annual declaration and registration renewal fit together

Brian’s tax agent registration is due for renewal by 1 September 2018. He must complete an annual declaration by 1 September 2016 and 1 September 2017.

The TPB will email Brian 45 days before each annual declaration is due, and he will have 45 days to complete it.

As his registration is due for renewal by 1 September 2018, he is not required to complete an annual declaration in 2018, but he will need to complete an application to renew his registration.

Keep details up-to-date

While the TPB will email agents when their annual declaration is due, it is important that their contact details, including their email addresses, are up to date at all times so that its reminders reach them on a timely basis
