LinkedIn Page Access By Employees is Risky
Do you stop your employees from accessing the company’s LinkedIn page?
There have been endless fears that once an employee exits they will have stolen clients from the organization’s LinkedIn account. They may start a business in the same line before resigning from work and poach the contacts of the company.
If you have a business in the recruitment and consultancy industry, for instance, a worker who leaves your organization knowing the ins and outs of your LinkedIn page could easily get ahead of you in business. But does this mean that you should never allow any employee from accessing and managing your social media pages? You cannot stop them from accessing as it is part of their job.
However, you could create an explicit policy that demands that anyone leaving the organization should first delete all contacts from their LinkedIn page. This is what is suggested by Case Law. The personnel manager should also seek to protect the company’s LinkedIn contacts by forming another policy that requires all leaving employees to forward their social media contacts to the boss.
